Thirukkural Kathaikal! Thirukkural Moral Stories 1

Hello Tamizha's!

Here we are starting with the our 1st Kural

"அகர முதல எழுத்தெல்லாம் ஆதி

பகவன் முதற்றே உலகு"

"Agara Mudhala Ezhuththellam Aadhi

Baghavan Mudhatre Ulaku"

Meaning:

"Of alphabets, the first is letter 'A', the first among Gods is Lord Vishnu, and the first in the world is the one who cultivates moral values."This Kural emphasizes the importance of cultivating moral values, which should be given the highest priority in life. Just as the letter 'A' is the first letter of the Tamil alphabet, Lord Vishnu is considered the first among Gods, and the pursuit of moral values should be given priority over all other pursuits in life.

Moral Story with the above Thirukkural: -

The Mahabharata, one of the greatest epics of India, contains many stories that teach moral values. Here is a story from the Mahabharata that relates to the first Kural of Thirukkural:

Once, the sage Narada went to Lord Vishnu and asked him who his greatest devotee was. Lord Vishnu replied that it was Sage Bhrigu. Narada was surprised, as he knew that Bhrigu was not as well-known as some of the other sages. He decided to visit Bhrigu to see for himself why he was considered the greatest devotee of Lord Vishnu.

When Narada arrived at Bhrigu's ashram, he found that Bhrigu was not there. Instead, he met Bhrigu's wife, Kavyamata, who welcomed him and served him with great hospitality. Narada was impressed by Kavyamata's devotion and dedication to her husband. He asked her why she had chosen to lead such a simple and austere life, living in the forest with her husband.

Kavyamata replied that she had chosen this life because she wanted to support her husband in his spiritual pursuits. She said that Bhrigu was a great sage who had dedicated his life to the service of Lord Vishnu. She considered it her duty to support him in any way she could, so that he could continue his work without any distractions.

Narada was deeply impressed by Kavyamata's devotion and sacrifice. He realized that true devotion did not require any external display of wealth or status, but was rather a matter of the heart. He returned to Lord Vishnu and told him that he had found his greatest devotee in Kavyamata, the wife of Sage Bhrigu.

This story illustrates the importance of cultivating moral values, as emphasized in the first Kural of Thirukkural. Kavyamata's devotion and dedication to her husband and his spiritual pursuits is a powerful example of the kind of moral values that can help us lead a meaningful and fulfilling life.
